A princess she was
So beautiful
Fair and lovely
Haunted by
An evil spy
Locked up so tight
She feared she’d never
See the country
And in her heart
She was a caged bird

When she saw him
A warrior
Both brave and noble
She knew he
Was meant for her
When he looked at her
He treated her with
Strange compassion
And in her heart
The caged bird sang

The two of them talked
He told her that he
Loved another
And deep inside
Her hope was gone
He then told her
His true love was
Leaving forever
And in her heart
The caged bird flew

He fought a battle
She knew he might
Never return
She hoped and prayed
He would survive
The party returned
She found that
He had died
And in her heart
The caged bird fell

The very next day
He returned
Very alive
And in her heart
The caged bird soared
She then found out
He still belonged
To another
And in her heart
The caged bird remained

The next months of her life
She would have to
Fight huge battles
But deep inside
She felt forever caged
Another man came along
He asked her for her
Hand in marriage
And when they wed
The bird was freed.
